Shanghai/Munich, 11 January 2022 – Aiways, having completed a new round of funding worth hundreds of millions of dollars, has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerate growth and reach additional markets.
The new investment brings with it a reorganisation of the Board of Directors in line with Aiways’ global development plans from 2022 onwards.
Chen Xuanlin (William Chen) is the new President of Aiways.
A long-standing shareholder, Chen has played a key role in the company’s growth nationally and internationally, providing strategic and financial support since its founding in 2017.
Along with Chen, Zhang Yang (Charlie Zhang), former Vice President of NIO, also joined the Aiways board.
Both have extensive experience in the automotive sector and have long been advocates of new energy vehicles and the transition to sustainable mobility.
Alexander Klose, Vice President Overseas Operations, based in Shanghai and Munich, remains at the helm of the brand’s successful growth strategy in Europe and the new markets that will open in 2022.
Samuel Fu, founder of Aiways, will continue as President from Shanghai.
New investments and top management changes will accelerate Aiways’ global development, the focus of which will be entering new markets, products, and sustainable mobility, optimising the customer experience and implementing the brand’s digital capabilities.
Aiways, the first Chinese electric vehicle start-up to sell its models in Europe, continues to grow its presence on the continent.
Aiways U5, the battery-electric SUV, is currently on sale in ten European markets – Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland – with more to follow in 2022.
Later this year, in all markets, the Aiways U5 SUV will be joined by the Aiways U6 SUV-Coupé.
Both models are purely electrically driven and offer accessible zero-emission driving, a high driving range and class-leading functionality.
In Europe, Aiways plans to launch one new electric vehicle model per year.
About Aiways
Founded in 2017, Aiways is a personal mobility provider with headquarters in Shanghai and European headquarters in Munich, Germany.
It was the first Chinese startup to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market with the launch of the U5 in 2020, a battery-electric SUV with exceptional range, style and quality.
Aiways is continuing its rapid expansion in Europe and beyond: its vehicles can now be ordered in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Israel, with plans to expand into other markets.
The U5 is produced at Aiways’ innovative Shangrao plant, one of the most modern car production facilities in China.
IT-controlled processes with high quality parameters follow the standards of Industry 4.0.
With an initial production capacity of 150,000 units per year, Aiways is able to increase this number to 300,000 units if global demand for electric vehicles grows.
The next Aiways model to be marketed in Europe will be the U6 electric SUV-coupé.
Best-in-class aerodynamics, intelligent technology and sporty design: the U6 SUV-coupé is a taste of the exciting future that awaits the Aiways brand.
