Shanghai/Munich, 24 November 2021 – Shanghai-based personal mobility provider Aiways is among the finalists for the Car of the Year (COTY) award with its first model being distributed in Europe, the 100% electric Aiways U5 SUV.
To be eligible for this prestigious award, candidate vehicles must be new models that are either already available on the market or expected to be on the market by the end of the year in at least five European countries.
In 2021, Aiways expanded its European presence to nine markets and entered the COTY finalists in its first attempt – a significant achievement for a young electric vehicle brand.
The 39 finalists for the 2022 COTY were selected from a list of more than 60 models by 61 independent automotive journalists from 23 European countries.
The same jury will decide on the shortlist of seven finalists by 29 November 2021.
Alex Klose, Executive Vice President Overseas Operations at Aiways, states:
“The Car of the Year award is one of the most important automotive awards in the world and we are proud that a young company like ours are among the finalists this year.
I am very pleased to have received such a positive response in all the European countries where the Aiways U5 SUV is already on sale or will be soon.
I would like to thank the members of the Car of the Year jury for the attention they have paid to the Aiways brand and the U5 SUV, and assure them that their success will provide the company with further incentive to continue its growth.”
Aiways U5 has been designed and developed to offer affordable zero-emission driving, which is distinguished by its high range and class-leading handling.
With a price list starting at €41,790*, Aiways U5 offers an attractive price/performance ratio.
